
Why we’re moving away from those old bathroom lamp heaters
You know those old-school bathroom heaters? The ones with the bright bulbs that make the room feel like a tanning salon? They’ve been the standard for years, but we’re seeing a big shift toward infrared (IR) wall heaters. It comes down to how they actually handle heat and—more importantly—how they handle water. The battle with steam Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the shower steam and the humidity, moisture gets everywhere. Those old lamp heaters usually have tiny gaps in the casing. Steam sneaks in, hits the wiring, and eventually, things start to corrode or short out. That’s why we focus so much on the IP rating (that’s just a fancy way of saying “how waterproof is this thing?”). Our IR heaters are sealed tight. Here’s why that matters: if a stray drop of water hits a red-hot quartz tube, the glass can literally crack from the shock. A high IP rating keeps the water out and your heater intact. Heat you actually feel Most traditional heaters try to warm up the air. But if you have a drafty bathroom or you open the door, all that warm air just… vanishes. You’re left shivering again. Infrared is different. It doesn’t waste time with the air. It sends out waves that warm up your skin, the floor, and the walls directly. It’s an instant feeling of warmth. No waiting around for the room to “warm up” while you’re standing there in a towel. The honest trade-offs We use specially coated quartz tubes to make sure the heat hits exactly where you’re standing. It’s a tighter, more concentrated kind of warmth. But, I’ll be honest—the installation isn’t as simple as changing a lightbulb. You can’t just plug these into a random outlet. You’ll need to wire them directly into your wall circuit with a dedicated breaker and proper grounding. If you try to skimp on the wiring for a high-wattage unit, you’ll probably trip your breaker the second you flip the switch. It’s worth doing it right the first time. In the long run, these units just take a beating better. Because the heating elements are shielded from the steam, they tend to last way longer than those old bulbs ever did.
