How it actually works
Standard heaters just warm up the air. The problem? That often just pushes the steam around the room. Infrared is different. It sends out energy that hits the surfaces of your walls and mirrors directly. It makes the water molecules vibrate, which creates heat. Think of it as attacking “cold spots.” By keeping the surface temperature up, you stop water from condensing in the first place. No condensation, no standing water. And without that water, mold spores have nothing to eat.
Getting rid of the damp
Mold loves air that doesn’t move and surfaces that stay wet. That’s where short-wave infrared comes in. It digs deeper into porous materials, pushing the moisture out of the wall and back into the air. Once that moisture is airborne, your vent can actually do its job and suck it out of the room. It’s a much faster way to dry things out. Plus, we design these lamps to pack a lot of heat into a tiny space. You get a hot surface quickly without having to waste energy heating every single cubic inch of the room.
The tricky part
You can’t just slap a high-powered lamp behind a mirror and call it a day. Glass is finicky. If the heat is too intense or the lamp is sitting too close to the mirror’s backing, you’re asking for trouble. You could end up with the mirror cracking or the backing peeling away. It’s a balancing act. You have to get the wattage and the distance just right so the mirror stays clear and warm without taking a beating from the heat.
